With the Right Support, We Can Go Far: Celebrating Amanda

At Embrace, we know that great care is built on more than rosters, routines, or tasks. It is built on relationships. It is built on trust. It is built on people who show up each day with compassion, consistency, and a genuine heart for others.

Amanda is one of those people. Loved by participants and deeply valued by her colleagues, Amanda brings something special to her work as a support worker. Her care is not transactional. It is personal, thoughtful, and grounded in a deep belief that every person deserves to feel seen, valued, and supported.

Amanda did not originally set out to work in care. She was encouraged by someone who saw something in her and believed she would make a good support worker. What began as a new opportunity quickly became something far more meaningful.

“It didn’t take long for me to realise that this was exactly where I was meant to be,” Amanda shared. “Serving others, making a difference, and walking alongside people in their journey became more than just a job. It became a calling.” That sense of purpose shines through in the way Amanda speaks about participants. For her, the most rewarding part of the role is not simply providing support. It is getting to know people over time, building meaningful connections, and sharing in their journey.

“They are not just a number to me,” she said. “They become a meaningful part of my journey in life.”

Amanda believes trust cannot be rushed. It is built slowly through patience, consistency, and genuine care. She focuses not on a person’s limitations, but on their strengths, their individuality, and their worth. Her approach is simple but powerful: encourage people, believe in them, and remind them that they are loved, valued, and important.

One moment that has stayed with Amanda came while supporting a participant living with dementia. One day, he walked over to her, gently placed his hand on her shoulder, and thanked her for looking after him. It was a simple moment, but one that meant everything. “Knowing that he felt cared for, valued, and safe meant more to me than I can put into words,” she said. It is moments like this that remind us why people like Amanda make such a difference. They bring not only practical support, but warmth, dignity, and humanity to the people they care for.

Amanda also speaks beautifully about what participants have taught her over the years. She says they have taught her to look beyond appearances, not to judge, to be patient, to be humble, and to love unconditionally. In her words, supporting others has changed her far more than she could ever change them.

When asked which Embrace values she connects with most, Amanda named compassion and excellence. Compassion shapes the way she sees and supports others, while excellence drives her to always give her best, because, as she says, the people she supports deserve nothing less.

Amanda’s message to participants, families, and the wider Embrace team is one of encouragement and shared responsibility. She reminds participants to believe in themselves and never underestimate what they are capable of. She thanks families for trusting Embrace with the care of their loved ones and encourages them to remain present and involved in their journey. And to her colleagues, she offers a message that captures her spirit perfectly: “With the right support, we can go far.”

It is a simple sentence, but one that says so much about Amanda and the way she works. She understands that care is never the work of one person alone. It is built together, through kindness, commitment, and the willingness to keep showing up for one another.

We are proud to celebrate Amanda, not only for the care she provides, but for the heart behind it. She reminds us that the most powerful part of support is often the human connection at the centre of it.

And, for those who may not know, Amanda also has one unexpected fear: frogs. It is a small detail, but a lovely reminder that behind every great support worker is a very human story of their own. Thank you, Amanda, for all that you do. Your compassion, excellence, and wholehearted care make a lasting difference every day.
