We are seeking an experienced Environmental & Waste Management Manager to lead environmental compliance, healthcare waste management, and sustainability initiatives across our organisation.

 

About the Role

The Environmental & Waste Management Manager is responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring environmental management systems to ensure compliance with environmental legislation, healthcare waste regulations, and NDIS Practice Standards.

 

The role focuses on the safe management of healthcare and hazardous waste, including infectious waste and sharps, while supporting environmental risk management and sustainability initiatives within disability support environments. This role plays a critical part in ensuring safe environments for participants receiving care in community and home-based settings.

Location
Key Responsibilities

Environmental Compliance & Governance

  1. Ensure organisational compliance with NDIS Practice Standards, environmental legislation, and healthcare waste regulations.
  2. Develop and maintain environmental and waste management policies, procedures, and operational guidelines.
  3. Monitor environmental compliance across service delivery sites and participant support environments.
  4. Liaise with regulatory bodies, environmental agencies, and licensed waste disposal contractors.
  5. Maintain environmental records, reports, and compliance documentation.
Healthcare & Hazardous Waste Management

Oversee the safe management of healthcare waste generated during disability support services, including:

  1. Infectious waste
  2. Sharps (needles, syringes, lancets)
  3. Pharmaceutical waste
  4. Chemical and hazardous waste

Responsibilities include:

  1. Implementing systems for proper waste segregation using colour-coded waste streams.
  2. Ensuring appropriate collection, packaging, labelling, storage, transport, and disposal of hazardous waste.
  3. Managing contracts and compliance with licensed waste disposal providers.
  4. Ensuring compliance with infection control and waste management guidelines.
Environmental Risk Management
  1. Identify environmental risks associated with service delivery activities.
  2. Conduct environmental risk assessments across operational locations and participant environments where services are delivered.
  3. Investigate incidents involving environmental hazards or waste management breaches.
  4. Develop emergency response procedures for environmental incidents and hazardous waste exposure.
Staff Training & Awareness
  1. Deliver training and guidance to staff on:
    • Safe handling of healthcare waste
    • Sharps management
    • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
    • Environmental safety and infection prevention
  2. Promote environmental awareness and safe work practices across the organisation.
Environmental Monitoring & Continuous Improvement
  1. Conduct environmental and waste management audits across operational sites.
  2. Monitor environmental performance indicators.
  3. Implement improvement initiatives to enhance sustainability and environmental performance.
  4. Support organisational initiatives aimed at reducing environmental impact and improving sustainability practices.
Skills and Experience
  1. Demonstrated experience in environmental management, waste management, or environmental compliance.
  2. Strong knowledge of environmental legislation and healthcare waste regulations.
  3. Experience managing hazardous or clinical waste systems.
  4. Experience developing policies, procedures, and compliance frameworks.
  5. Strong risk management and incident investigation capability.
  6. Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Experience within healthcare, disability services, aged care, or regulated environments will be highly regarded.

Care Coordinator (Registered Nurse / Senior Care Professional)

We are seeking an experienced Care Coordinator to lead and coordinate safe, person-centred care for participants with complex needs across disability, aged care, and community health programs.
This role plays a pivotal leadership function, combining clinical oversight, care coordination, workforce supervision, and operational accountability. You will act as the primary point of contact for allocated participants while providing line management and professional support to Disability Support Workers.
This position reports to the Clinical Services Manager – Aged Care & General Health / Mental Health & Behaviour Support and is based in Karratha.

Location
Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop, implement, and review individualised Care and Support Plans aligned with participant goals, clinical best practice, and NDIS requirements

  2. Coordinate multidisciplinary care, including liaison with allied health, medical practitioners, behaviour support practitioners, plan managers, and families

  3. Complete End of Plan Reports within required timeframes and monitor participant progress against agreed outcomes

  4. Provide line management and supervision to Disability Support Workers, including supervision, performance reviews, competency assessments, and rostering

  5. Maintain high standards of clinical documentation, compliance, and reporting using care management systems

  6. Monitor service delivery quality through audits, incident management, and continuous improvement activities

  7. Undertake limited direct care shifts to maintain participant rapport and clinical oversight

  8. Ensure compliance with NDIS Practice Standards, Aged Care Quality Standards, restrictive practice governance, and WHS requirements
  9. Contribute to service planning, workforce capability, and sustainable growth initiatives
Essential Qualifications & Requirements
  1. Bachelor of Nursing with current unrestricted AHPRA registration
  2. Minimum 2 years’ experience in care coordination, senior nursing, or team leadership within disability, aged care, or community services
  3. Demonstrated experience supporting participants with complex health, mental health, or behavioural support needs
  4. Strong understanding of NDIS Practice Standards, restrictive practice requirements, and person-centred care principles
  5. Experience supervising, mentoring, and supporting frontline support staff
  6. Proficiency in care management systems and Microsoft Office
  7. Current First Aid and CPR certification
  8. NDIS Worker Screening Clearance and National Police Check
  9. Current Australian Driver’s Licence and access to a reliable vehicle
  10. Desirable (but not essential)
  11. Certificate IV in Leadership and Management
  12. Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
  13. Experience working in culturally diverse or regional and remote communities
  14. Training or experience in Positive Behaviour Support
